Important information about iPhone photography

For my darkroom students who may be shooting with an iPhone, the native file format by default is a .heic file.  Photoshop doesn't recognize that format so you want to go into your settings>camera> and change from something like "most efficient" to "most compatible"... then all of the images will be .jpg's now and universally editable, post-able, etc....

Newest phones may use a .heif format.  Same issue.  Here's an article showing you how to fix that...

  1. I want to point out that smartphone users should strongly consider shooting in RAW, if possible. For iPhone users, the native camera app does not support RAW. However, any third-party "pro" app does. One app that I've used in the past and am using again is called ProCam. This is not the only app though. Do your research to find the app that works best for you. Be warned, many of these apps do not come free to get the full feature set. Below is a link to the app I use.
