My scanner has been doing such a good job, that I'm also stuck doing manual cleanup of dust and scratches on each picture. Trying to have the computer or scanner do any cleanup automatically I'm finding is not worth it.
With regards to my editing, I've been making extensive use of layer masks and adjustment layers in Photoshop. To accomplish this, I've been making complex and precise selections using the pen tool and the regular selection tools. My selections have afforded greater control in overall editing.
Your scanner is doing a very good job with these film scans... The sunlight on the white columns of Rosary is perfectly edited.
